TV Review: The Pickup Artist

The basis of the show is to train helpless men who are having trouble approaching women and give them the confidence to be the creepy man offering you a drink who can't guarantee it's roofie-free. The teacher of these horny monkeys is seen above, in all his nail-polish-and-guyliner glory. He calls himself "Mystery" presumably because it's a mystery women touch him, and he's written books about the subject of picking up women. His students learn to use "props," like a feather boa, to entice women into speaking with them or they ask them questions about their hair. The women then read overwhelming signals from their gaydar and pretend to find this endearing so they'll have a new shopping buddy. This is omitted from the show for ratings or something. I'm gonna have to give this show two nail-polished thumbs down. Sorry, fake Criss Angel.

  1. Ha, ha! Nice review. My sentiments exactly. Mystery is so lame.

  2. I do agree with you in one thing: using props is so lame. one should do that if one was a magician, that way by doing magic tricks you would be showing a part of your personality. but in general, i think that using props IS ridiculous.

  3. seems there has been a bug or something because my posts got deleted... here they are again.

I can understand such a bad review because:
1)you are a woman, and the show is not aimed at women
2)any "method" of "picking up" women will always be considered as some sort of trick, and obviously no one likes being tricked.
3)the skills anyone should have in order to be attractive is wrongly considered as something that anyone is given at birth, if anyone tries to "study" or build those skills, it is considered ridiculous and laughable. why is that? so, people who don't have an attractive personality should give up at women?

In addition, you must consider that girls in pubs are generally experienced at discarding men who approach them (read: bitchy). That's why first impression is so important, and that's why people, books and now shows like theese exist. Girls have learned the ways to get rid of men they don't like at first without even giving them a chance, so why would it be wrong for men tu learn how to make a better first impression....

I also don't agree with you in that helpless men who are having trouble approaching women want to be creepy guys. No one wants to be creepy. Maybe just the method of offering drinks is creepy.

I also don't like the way you classify those men as horny monkeys. Maybe you have sex every day and therefore you don't feel the need to go out and find someone...But not everyone has such luck, and sex is a basic human need. (read manslows theory of the hierarchy of needs). So maybe they are horny, but that's just only human nature. No need to be disrespectful.

  4. i bet that if we send an experienced Mystery student without you knowing, he can totally pick you up Julia, and you would be helpless
    Mistery Method WORKS, period

Guys who are good at it can use it without girls noticing it, especially now that everyone has seen it on tv

Yeah its easy to bash on mystery now that you know what he does...but if you didnt....different story
